Something curious at Jillian's....
baby.jpgKaeden.JPGImagine my shock when I was told that a student on the 8th grade trip this Wednesday adopted a baby!
"What?" I nearly choked as my soda sprayed out of my nose....

Apparently, an amazing new invention named the "Gene Machine" allowed students to predict the appearance of their children based on the merging of two simple photographs. What a cool idea! Thus, I would like to congratulate two students from WOMS, whose names I am not allowed to post here, on the "birth" of their cyberson, Kaeden. Notice child number two who was created at Jillian's.  Can you guess whose child this is?  Who knew adopting a baby was this easy?

Please take the survey!
The exants.gifcitement at WOMS is tangible, you can feel the energy seeping into your skin, traveling like tiny ants just underneath the epidermis, causing us all to be energized, anxious, jumpy...why?  The sun and the hot, humid breezes are calling to us..."put your bathing suit on, splash in the sparkling pool waters, body surf in the waves, take in a blockbuster movie in the air-conditioning with a warm tub of buttery popcorn, then lick your salty fingers."  Not quite yet...a few more days.  Before you go, please take our library survey so that Mrs. Kilby knows how to better serve you next year.

Inventory Time!
fightingerin.gifI know that some students are exasperated with my efforts to collect fines and account for late books.  Trust me, I'm not into fighting.  The thing is if I don't get the accounts cleared now, then after summer you are less likely to care (not that everyone cares now...tee, hee).  Please, if you lost a book, pay for it!  Every book that is lost needs to be replaced for the next class coming in. We do what is called an "inventory" to see what is lost each year.  Then, we try and replace them all. And for those of you muttering about that "meanie librarian"--the money is not mine personally...it goes to the school.  Trust me, I won't be vacationing in Cancun or anything with your fine money either...even though I could use a nice tan....

Twilight, anyone?
CreepyEyes.jpgOkay, so I know I've told you that I met StephanieSpeaks.JPGStephenie Meyer like 2 years ago...this was before of the Twilight Craze.  It's a funny story actually.  Back then, Ms. Meyer appeared in the back parking lot of a bookstore, just by the dumpsters and you could barely hear her voice, even though there were less than 100 people there.  Most people stood, but a few lucky (or pushy ones like me), got a chair.  I remember being hot, sweaty, and cranky because I had tripped in front of the bookstore over a bit of concrete and ripped the skin off of my tummy (my shirt flew up over my head).  I had also landed square on my then expensive razor phone which was acting rather funny. All of these festivities took place right in front of the line of people HangingwithStephanie.jpganxiously awaiting their goddess of vampire fiction.  Many laughed. In short, the author signing was the highlight of the event...that and the fact that some of my students dressed up as the Cullen family.  I've included some pictures of them here so you can get an idea...luckily Ms. Meyer was flattered and not freaked out; now you have to buy tickets to hear her speak...and I bet you can't smell the noxious aroma of rotting fish and day-old fried chicken from the dumpster...that's fame for ya....thank God she didn't see me fall.

To Zoe with love.
ZoeI would like to give a shout out to my SummerSpring07020.jpgniece, Zoe, and all of her classmates who are checking out my website during show-and-tell.  Zoe is a lot like I was growing up; she has two brothers, loves to read, loves to swim, and loves to take naps (just like me!).  She is very special to me because she is my only niece.  All the other children in the family are boys!  So, here's to you, Zoe...the most beautiful girl I know.  I love you.  -Aunt Erin
