Strike a Pose
Mrs. Kilby with:
Sonnenblick.Kilby.Shusterman.JPGLeft, Jordan Sonnenblick (Girls, Drums & Dangerous Pie, Zen and the Art of Faking It)
Right, Neal Shusterman, (The Shadow Club, Everlost, Undwind).

That's right, I'm back from Dallas with a cartload of new books.  The fates are against us though...I'm out of barcodes and so these books are trickling out like yolk from an eggshell crack, but I'm working on it.  Give me a week and perhaps you'll have new books to drool over and I'll have new choices of books to booktalk.

Sonnenblick fans should know that besides Terry Trueman (more on him later) Sonnenblick is the funniest man I've ever met.  Did you know he actually dug a grave in his back yard while researching a novel and his neighbors freaked out? That he was once a middle school English teacher?  And Shusterman writes movie scripts?  Check out my pictures on the Library Conference to see me and my BFF Mrs. Gladden posing with authors.  For more on the author, click the picture and check out their link.

Rock and Roll...
I'm sure ya'll know by now that writers are like Rock Stars to me!  I have been lucky enough to meet writers like Scott Westerfeld, Stephenie Meyer, Libba Bray, Darren Shan, Gail Giles, Chris Crutcher, Gordon Korman, Christopher Paul Curtis, Benjamin Alire Saenz, Justine Larbelestier,TopHatErin.gif Sonya Sones, Pam Munoz Ryan, William Slaeter, Sharon Draper, Neal Shusterman...and I'm sure a few more I am forgetting.  Why, do you ask?  Because I am a librarian and every year part of my schooling (yes, teachers go to school too) is to travel within Texas and meet these authors or hear them speak.  It is in this way that I learn more about what you are reading and what you want to read.

Why do I tell you this?  This week I will be in Dallas on Wednesday-Friday.  I have a chance to hear authors speak and meet authors that I and you admire.  I also have a chance to get their books long before they can be purchased in stores.  The authors that are first on my list to hear and meet this year are:  Terry Trueman, Maureen Johnson, Jordan Sonnenblick, T.A. Barron, Robert Lypsyte and Kennth Oppel.  Those are my highlights at this point, but get this...I have 16 other authors to choose from!  I am so exited I could sing out loud. So, if you hear me humming on Monday and Tuesday ignore me, I'm getting ready for a rock concert and my favorite authors are singin' baby!

Zoom, zoom, zoom!
oldcar1_animated.gifI know this doesn't seem like a big deal to most people, but I paid off my car today! 7 long years ago I took out a "Smart Lease" which I can tell you was anything but smart.  You see, those kinds of leases require you to pay way more interest than any sane human being would normally pay.  However, I believe that I was uncomfortably sunburned and slightly embarrased by the pink car I drove in college, and so was talked into a very unwise "upgrade" to the Isuzu I drive now by a smooth talking salesman. Seven long years later my little SUV is slightly weathered, dented and very dirty, but it's still running and it's all mine! Hoorah, more money for books!
